Thames Freeport is proud to support the CIB European Affordable Housing Symposium 2026, a two-day international event bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, housing organisations, academics, and innovators to explore the future of affordable housing delivery across Europe
Taking place this September, the symposium is organised by academics from Nottingham Trent University and is co-badged by the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB), one of the world’s leading networks for research and innovation in the built environment. The event will provide a valuable platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and discussion on the challenges and opportunities surrounding affordable housing provision and modern methods of construction
The symposium will feature two distinct programmes designed to engage different audiences. The first day will focus on affordable housing delivery and industrialised construction, welcoming housing associations, local authorities, developers, infrastructure organisations, contractors, manufacturers, policymakers, funders, professional bodies, and researchers. The second day will bring together academic and industry partners interested in collaborative research, innovation, and practical housing solutions across the UK and Northern Europe.
As a champion of innovation, sustainable growth, and economic regeneration across the Thames Estuary, Thames Freeport recognises the importance of creating the infrastructure and housing required to support thriving communities and future investment. The symposium aligns closely with Thames Freeport’s ambition to foster collaboration between industry, academia, government, and investors to address some of the UK’s most pressing social and economic challenges.
The event will provide an opportunity for Thames Freeport to engage with an international audience of researchers, policy experts, and industry leaders, highlighting the role that innovation, partnership working, and evidence-based solutions can play in supporting housing delivery and regional growth. The programme will also feature contributions from key stakeholders involved in shaping the future of housing policy and development.
Professor Patricia Tzortzopoulos of Nottingham Trent University said the event aims to bring together policymakers, academics, and industry representatives to explore new approaches to affordable housing delivery, strengthen collaboration across Europe, and develop practical solutions that can have a lasting impact on communities.
Registration for the event is now open, and attendance is free.
