Thames Freeport Skills Programme Launches.

Following the success of our 2024 Skills Accelerator Pilot fund, part of our Community Skills Fund, we’re pleased to announce the launch of the Thames Freeport Skills Programme, a new procurement round designed to boost access to high-quality employment and training opportunities across the Freeport region.

This expanded programme will support delivery and capital projects that align with our commitment to unlock opportunity, build productivity, and connect local people to the fast-growing industries shaping our economy.

Building on Local Strength

Last year we demonstrated the impact of targeted investment in local delivery. From training in construction and logistics to tailored support for people furthest from the labour market, funded projects reached hundreds of learners across South Essex and East London.

We saw what happens when we back trusted local organisations: they move quickly, work collaboratively, and deliver results.

The new Skills Programme takes this approach further, offering more funding, broader scope, and the chance to scale up what’s already working well.

Supporting Sectors That Matter

The Thames Freeport Skills Programme will focus on the sectors that are driving regional growth and job creation:

  • Construction and sustainable building
  • Food and drink logistics
  • Hydrogen and clean technologies
  • Digital and advanced manufacturing
  • Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (VR) curriculum development

By supporting skills in these areas, we’re not only addressing local needs, we’re preparing the communities in the region for the future economy and skills demand.

Delivering Inclusive Growth

At the heart of this programme is a belief that everyone should have the opportunity to thrive as the Freeport grows.

That means removing barriers to employment, investing in new learning infrastructure, and ensuring that training is relevant, inclusive and employer-connected.

It also means listening to what partners on the ground are telling us, and trusting them to deliver solutions that work for their communities.

Get Involved

We are inviting colleges, training providers, employers, and community organisations to apply.

📅 Deadline for applications: Friday 22 August 2025 at 12:00pm
